Full-sole ice cleats reduce the risk of ice-related injuries far better than heel-only ice cleats especially on uneven, "bumpy" ice. If your company doesn't have restrictions regarding full-sole shoe attachments while driving, Winter Walking LOW-PRO Oce Cleats and Winter Walking ICE BEAST™ LOW-PRO Ice Cleats are your best choices. Here's why.
Durable 1mm Tungsten Carbide studs minimally extend beyond the Ice Cleat's self-cleaning tread making them safer to wear
LOW-PRO and ICE BEAST LOW-PRO are practical ice cleats truck drivers will use. Furthermore, drivers will be more productive because they'll be able move faster across slippery ground.
Note: Ice cleats with Transitional Traction provide excellent traction on ice, packed and loose snow, slush, and black ice. However, if you encounter occasional deliveries on steep, icy hills, consider Winter Walking HIGH-PRO Ice Cleats and Winter Walking ICE BEAST™ HIGH-PRO Ice Cleats (shown later on this page) in addition to LOW-PRO Ice Cleats. HIGH-PRO and ICE BEAST HIGH-PRO Ice Cleats have even more aggressive 2mm studs. However, you would have to remove them before going indoors. Therefore, you would wear the LOW-PRO Ice Cleats throughout the day and use the HIGH-PRO Ice Cleats for the worst situations.
LOW-PRO is my top recommendation for people with regular shoes and boots constantly going in and out of doors, vehicles, or have difficulty putting ice cleats on and taking them off. LOW-PRO is safe to wear while driving and on most indoor floors without damaging them. So you can often leave LOW-PRO Ice Cleats on your shoes and boots all day.

I always recommend full-sole ice cleats whenever Company Policy doesn't prohibit their use while driving. Every stud must be effective on both full-sole and heel-only ice cleats. However, aggressive, effective studs are more crucial on heel-only ice cleats because you depend upon far fewer spikes to gain traction.
Therefore, choose Winter Walking HEEL-GRIPS™ with 26 2mm tungsten carbide studs if you're not constantly going in and out of doors. That's because you have to remove HEEL-GRIPS before going indoors because of the longer spikes will damage interior floors and are slippery on smooth, hard surfaces.
Choose Winter Walking LOW-PRO HEEL with 26 1mm tungsten carbide studs if you're constantly going in and out of doors because they're safe to wear on most interior floors.

Use LOW-PRO HEEL cleats with Transitional Traction™ if you're constantly driving and going in and out of doors. More aggressive heel-only ice cleats are not practical under these circumstances because you must remove them every time you go indoors. You must remove aggressive ice cleats because they'll damage the floor or be slippery on smooth, hard surfaces.
Use HEEL-GRIPS Ice Cleats if you're constantly driving and not frequently going indoors. The reason that I recommend HEEL-GRIPS in this situation is because they have 10 2mm Tungsten Carbide Studs for better traction.
Lastly, if you're constantly driving and going in and out of doors and not restricted from wearing full-sole ice cleats, I recommend Winter Walking LOW-PRO Ice Cleats with Transitional Traction™.Strap-on heel ice cleats serve double duty.

Choose gritted ice cleats when non-conductivity and non-sparking are crucial. Examples include oil and gas extraction, processing, and transport, refueling operations. around explosives, and grain storage. Non-Sparking ice cleats are much safer than ice cleats that are only spark-retardant.
GRIPS-LITE™ give you improved traction on a variety of slick surfaces including oil and grease, wet floors, and chemicals. However, if your primary concern is slick winter surfaces and you do not require non-conductivity or Non-Sparking, choose a Studded Ice Cleat. That's because gritted ice cleats only reduce falls on the ice and snow by 40 to 50 percent and because they're far less effective in frigid temperatures when the ice is denser.
Here are the things I personally consider.
The absolute safest ice cleats to wear while driving is heel-only ice cleats because there are no straps to get hung up, and there are no studs on the forefoot to stick on to the pedals. The obvious downside is that heel-only ice cleats are less effective and also force you to walk flat-footed to keep the studs contacting the ice. The final decision is really up to the individual or company safety manager.
