- Both the stud and treads contact the floor because the 1mm tungsten carbide studs minimally protrude beyond the tread. Therefore,
- They won't damage most floors, and they're not slippery on smooth, hard surfaces. Examples of floors where you can wear them are like those found in the grocery store, drug store, and post office. However, you SHOULD NOT wear them on finished hardwood floors because they'll scratch them.
- Transitional Traction ice cleats are safe to wear while driving because the shorted studs won't penetrate the pedals. The straps are tight against your footwear and less likely to get hung up transitioning between pedals. However, you are the ultimate judge to determine if you feel comfortable driving wearing them.
The problem with Transitional Traction ice cleats is that they are a compromise solution. The ice cleats I recommend in the next section have 2mm studs that provide better traction on ice that has a thin layer of snow on the top and should last twice as long. However, the more aggressive studs require taking them off and putting them back on going indoors or in and out of your car or mass transit.
